Up to now..

This week was tough because progress reviews are next week and everyone is working really hard. I'm still working on the painting and over the weekend I hope to finish it and do some experimenting with materials in my sketchbook. I also plan on looking at molds that grow on food because this is movement in itself.

Just want to upload a few pages from my sketchbook to track how I got to where I am now..
I started with the idea of capturing movement and motion, through film, pictures, paintings...

I love the work by the Impressionists and was inspired by their use of paint to portray movement and motion. They captured fleeting moments through their brushwork and thick use of paint. I was heavily influenced by Monet's series of paintings such as his Poplar and Rouen Series and wanted to us this idea of drawing repeated scenes to capture the changes.

I thought to draw the same thing everyday and see how it moves and changes. I came up with the idea of drawing my fridge each day as it is constantly moving. I did this for a few days and didn't see it going anywhere so I went back to Monet and thought again. I wondered what it was that made Rouen look different in each painting and realised it was the light and atmospheric changes. This led me to look at clouds and light+shade but I was advised to go back to the fridge idea!

I'm happy with where my project is at now. I experimented with photocopies of my drawings last night and played around with the idea of negative space and black and white shapes. I think it was successful in capturing the movement of the objects I'm not focusing on the details but just the shapes themselves.

I plan on making a frame out of wood with slots in it that will hold acetate drawings that I can place one in front of the other, so that when you look through you can see all the layers of the filling up and emptying fridge.
